@jabbathematt: Also, ridiculous limiting and compression do not assist in making the sound heavier. Light compression and limiting do. Get it right. Don't tell an audio engineer he doesn't know how to do his job.
@jabbathematt: That doesn't matter at all. EVERYTHING is getting lost. Which means NOTHING makes much sense in the mix with this much compression. Bob Katz merely proposed the reversal of the loudness wars, I wasn't suggesting he should master it. He does classical mastering most often, and on occasion pop mastering. The idea I'm presenting here is that we turn the limiters down, stop compressing so much, so we can finally hear how insane the drum work is again. I literally couldn't hear the kick at times. Using nice headphones, mind you. I don't care how insane this is supposed to sound; it doesn't SOUND like it's musically insane as much as it does sonically insane. Maybe if I could hear the instruments as they were recorded instead of this heavily compressed bullcrap I would listen to it more. Honestly I really enjoy this genre, but the stupid amount of compression on all fronts is really annoying me. When I can hear the kick and snare cutting through like it does on stage, then I'll be satisfied. It's really not that hard to understand
@Jonatan Hall: What if it is? It still sounds like crap. Don't get me wrong, the song's great. The mix is pretty good, too. But the fact that it's limited so freakin' hard ruins the sound. The amount of compression on this is beyond ridiculous.
