New Zealand born musician/composer Theo Corfiatis is the man behind Blue Xrysalis, with several other musicians contributing to tracks,
on his latest upcoming rock based album CH=X.
Theo grew up in Wellington, and started playing piano at age 8. He came from a family of musicians and always had music around him, it
just seemed to be a natural thing to pick up an instrument and play it.
By the time he was a teenager Theo had started a rock band with some friends at high school, and started writing his own songs. He got into
different bands later, with other local Wellington musicians, and explored different musical styles from electronica to grunge.
Theo decided to study at university and ended up working in the medical field. He became increasingly disillusioned with the rigidity and
routine of his medical career and finally gave it up for his music. Prior to quitting medicine, he had released one album of electronica called
“Sublimation Project” and had completed most of a second album called CH=X, under the name of Blue Xrysalis.
Theo also writes film scores for the local film industry and his music is used by a national newspaper on it’s website to accompany videos.
He collaborates with other artists and musicians in various creative projects involving his music.
And if that’s not enough, he recently started a web design business with a friend, where design and music are integrated together online.
In his own words
“I think you have to be a little crazy to be an artist. When you think about it, what other profession pays practically nothing, makes you laugh and cry,
all at the same time; lets you dress in wild clothes stand up in Front of thousands of people and make a total fool of yourself; lets you spend long hours immersed in your own world, wallowing in self pity, and then lets you take all that and make something unique out of it, which no one has ever seen or
heard before.”
