Notes
Welcome to the mysterious and magical world of Blood 'n' Tongue and Mr. Fist. This volume is the fourth in a series of "best of" sets which will be released over the coming months by Blood 'n' Tongue. Along with the "Song of the Week" series, these releases are intended to pave the way for an extensive release campaign of the full original albums from which these selections were drawn.
Volume 04 focuses on "funky" grooves for chilling & toe tapping.
All compositions were created, performed and produced by Stephen Ugo Rosin at the Blood 'n' Tongue studio in Vancouver, BC.
This collection covers 10 years of activity from 2001 to 2010. All tracks were recorded with Logic Pro (Versions 4 through 9) on a Mac and were remastered in 2010 for this release.
"The Immortal" & "Wheel of Fortune" were recorded in 2001 and released in 2003 on the web LP, "Fortune's Hand". This LP is part of a seven disc set with each disc dedicated to a specific planet. The ruling planet for this set is Jupiter.
"Voice on the Air" was recorded in 2002 and released in 2003 on the web LP, "The Messenger". This LP is part of a seven disc set with each disc dedicated to a specific planet. The ruling planet for this set is Mercury.
"Fatty Patty" was recorded in 2002 and released on the web LP, "Mr. Fist & the Fist Brigade - Perverted Percussion". This collection seeks to recreate the sound and feel of a live lounge band as it goes through its paces from disco to exotica.
"Soft on Soul" was recorded in 2003 and released on the web LP, "Edith Keeler Must Die".
"Yo-Del" was recorded in 2007 and released on the web LP, "Mr. Fist presents Organ Favorites, Volume 2: Organasm". This collection recalls the feeling of the classic old organ albums from the 50's with a 21st century psychedelic sensibility. It takes you on a journey through a variety of musical styles from rock 'n' roll to funk to dub and a few more obscure trails in between! Each is seamlessly tied together with the sexy, sultry sound of the instrument made for a madman. Light, easy and fun listening. Nothing could be more terrifying!
"Fading in the Moonlight" was recorded in 2008 and released on the web LP, "Mr. Fist Groove Orchestra - Classical Fiasco". For this outing, Mr. Fist brings you a melding of smooth grooves and orchestral arrangements, suitable for fine dining and other intellectual pursuits. Slip on your best evening wear and prop your nose up, defiantly in the air, so everyone knows just how much better you are than they! These recordings are not recommended for the poor or the ignorant.
"Kinder Sind Nahrung" (Translation - Children Are Food) was recorded in 2010 and originally released on the web LP, "Mr. Fist Sings for Kids - Talking to Strangers". The concept for this collection was the creation of an "honest" children's album with a psychedelic mood. It has long been a tradition in classic children's stories to feature elements of cannibalism in order to frighten impressionable youngsters. Probably one of the most well known of such stories is Hansel and Gretel with its images of ravenous witches using candy treats to trick greedy kiddies into a waiting hot oven! This was a key inspiration for this composition. The piece is an attempt to bring this mythology back to the modern world where we have long forgotten how tasty those little tikes can be!
"We Are Leaving" was recorded in 2010 and released on the web LP, "Mister Fist Limited - Public Trance System"t. Find yourself a comfy seat and sit back while you travel to far off locations as ultra modern technology, using hypnotic rhythms, moves you through one mind altering environment after another. Passengers are advised that all trips are one way, so no need to bring along any unnecessary baggage!
