Just heard that Shenouda III has died; I suppose I ought to record a new version once his successor's been announced (although I probably shan't).

Right, the "little week". Well, to be honest, that one is perhaps a smidgen obscure. I happened, when writing the song, to remember a book I'd once read about various different sorts of calendar, and I vaguely recalled a particularly strange one from Bali, called the Pawukon. I shan't go into the details, as they're bewilderingly complicated, but basically, rather than being content with a boring old 7 day week, they have 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10 day weeks operating simultaneously. I've tried to understand exactly how this works, and it makes my head melt. But the Balinese name for the 2 day week is 'duwiwara', and thus, "the one about the duwiwara is a little week". I know, I know.

On the one hand, I suppose the fact that I had to spend half an hour researching the joke should have alerted me to the fact that it's unlikely to provoke hilarity in many, but I cherish the hope that one day I'll find myself playing to an audience which happens to include some Balinese, or perhaps a bunch of academics who've just got out of a conference on calendrical systems in south east Asia, and that one will go down an absolute storm. One day.
