About
BLACK INDIAN
Black Indian, hailing from Washignton, DC, emerged as a part of the Freestyle Hip Hop Community in the late 90's with the ability to entertain and inform fans of all age groups. While performing in the DC area, Black Indian captured the ears of accomplished artists throughout the Washington Metropolitan area and was introduced to well-known jazz artist named Steve Coleman by a member of the Freestyle Union. Mr. Coleman's popularity in the European jazz community gave way to introducing an amatuer Blacking to a European tour experience. And so started the beginning of Black Indian's musical career.
Serving as one-third of the Freestyle Hip Hop group “Opus Akoben”, Black Indian had the opportunity to tour in France, Italy, Sweden, Spain and Germany on several occassions. The tour was extremely successful and Opus Akoben went on to release the highly regarded album Art of War on the BMG France label.
At the age of 15, Black Indian signed to BMG and then MCA-Universal at 21 as a solo artist and recorded his first album “Get' Em Psyched. The album featured Biz Markie and gave Black Indian the opportunity to tour with The Roots, BlackStar, De La Soul. He also performed shows with Kurupt, Master P, Mos Def and Black Eyed Peas. The album was a huge success with playing time on US radio stations. The video for “Get 'Em Pysched” also received playing time on various video music channels. After gaining a buzz and various regions, at the same time competing with lablemate Nelly, politics of the business, and a moment of clarity, Black Indian walked away from the music business on top to keep his own sanity.
Fast forward to the present. Black Indian teamed up with Judah, one of DC's most energetic producers to release the mixtape I Tried To Tell You, his first compilation since the Japanese release of The Future in 2004. I Tried To Tell You, a mixtape masterpiece touches on many of Black Indian's life experience. A passion filled album full of lyrics and musical intensity, and integrity which can not be found in the music of today's rappers and producers. Black Indian was also afforded the opportunity to work with several of DC's finest producers such as Slim the 78er, J Scrilla, Philopodamus and Grammy-nominated producer Kokayi to create earthened backdrop on the mixtape. “I Tried to Tell You is a quality primer of Black Indian's work which will propel him to the next level of recognition and respect by Hip-Hop fans”....DJ Fusion
