As a follow-up to 2009's "Rádio Do Canibal", I sent one of my favorite songs from the album to several of my friends and heroes.I asked them to use their imaginations and take the song somewhere entirely new.The result is five great new tracks featuring a legendary percussionist from São Paulo, one of my favorite MC's ever, a Brazilian record guru, a West Coast beat manipulator, an incredibly talented and prolific composer from Rio de Janeiro, one of my city's best DJ's, and a childhood friend who inspired me to start collecting records...all together on one 12".Here's a few of my favorite moments. You can pre-order the EP here: http://bit.ly/oAmcyF And here is the brand new video: http://bit.ly/nMMtRx

Last, but definitely not least, a killer remix by Mike 2600. Mike has designed most of my album covers (the stamp theme of "Rádio Do Canibal" was inspired by Mike's ill collection of stamps from other countries). Beyond his design skills, Mike is also one of the Twin Cities' best DJ's and he really delivered one for the dancefloor here.

Also definitely worth checking out is Mochilla's Timeless series of concerts on DVD and CD/LP. In addition to performances by Mulatu Astatke and "Suite For Ma Dukes", there's a great show by Arthur Verocai. http://www.mochilla.com/timeless

Hip hop fans might recognize a couple of Verocai's heavily-sampled tunes (Little Brother, MF Doom, Ludacris, and Soul Position have all tapped him). Here's two: http://bit.ly/fS8FML and http://bit.ly/gedAk5

Of all the exciting contributions on this 12", this was the biggest for me...Arthur Verocai writing, arranging, conducting, and performing on a brand new version of "Tema Do Canibal"?!?!? Verocai wrote arrangements on hundreds and hundreds of classic Brazilian records in the 60's and 70's without ever really gaining a name for himself. He recorded a brilliant solo LP that slipped through the cracks, but when it was rediscovered and reissued a few years ago he instantly became a cult favorite among record hounds.

Production here is by Exile. I met Exile through Fashawn whose entire first album is produced by Exile. Most people know this excellent producer from his album with Blu, "Below The Heavens". He absolutely crushes this remix! Exile abusing his MPC something awful --&rt; http://bit.ly/7AULm

This section comes at the end of the "Mind The Gap" remix featuring MF Doom. I shouldn't have to tell you anything about Doom. Just listen and enjoy!

The percussion you hear is an instrument called the Tamba. It is being played here by its inventor, Helcio Milito. Milito is not just a master percussionist who has worked with João Gilberto, Stan Getz, Luiz Bonfá, Gil Evans, Wes Montgomery, Astrud Gilberto, Duke Ellington, and his own excellent Tamba Trio...he is also a visionary producer. Check out his sublime work on one of my favorite LP's ever: http://bit.ly/cpDhmQ

This is a remix by DJ Nuts from São Paulo. Nuts is a great DJ and has been an incredible link between DJ's/producers from the states and the music of Brazil. His knowledge of his country's music, and his enthusiasm to share it has been invaluable. He DJ's for one of Brazil's dopest MC's, Marcelo D2. Check out a whole bunch of great mixes by Nuts for free: http://dj-nuts.blogspot.com/

After moving to California, Tom has done great work with reissue labels like Lotus Land and PPU. His knowledge on disco, boogie, and modern soul records is not to be fucked with. He's also done some excellent recording and remix/re-edit work under his own name. Check ou this movie about Tom and his family: http://www.thesupernoblebrothersmovie.com/

This remix is by my good friend Tom Noble. Tom and I grew up together in Milwaukee, played in several bands together, and talked about music A LOT. Through Tom and his brother Andy, I was exposed to whole worlds of new music that continue to influence me today. This is last track on the 12", but I had to put it first here because it represents where I come from.

The 12" features a slightly different version of "Tema Do Canibal" with some new edits and scratching. I had a lot of fun performing this song on tour with Brother Ali, so I wanted you to be able to hear what it sounded like from the comfort of your headphones.
