@ControL.freak umm, 4/4 ... (The time signature (also known as meter signature) is a notational convention used in Western musical notation to specify how many beats are in each measure and which note value constitutes one beat. (wiki) ) hence four beats per measure: 1,2,3,4 1,2,3,4 1,2,3,4 ... make no mistake, I know 4/4 I reckon you do to but you're having trouble explaining it.

@Mack Samaha: 4/4 means a straight simple bassline. if you editing an stepsequencer which has 16 steps you need to set the numbers 1 + 5 + 9 + 13 to get the simple strait bassline.
