A Year Of China A depository for all China Field Recordings and a source for the 'A Year of China' project
At the onset of rush hour I setup in the middle of Kunming's main intersection, the Xiaoximen Underpass, where Renmin Lu meets Dongfang Lu. For an hour I recorded the interaction between humans, transport machines, and the ambient environment. Sounds from the traffic and humans reverberate throughout the underpass amassing in a dense soundscape. A particular anxious driver, at around 30 minutes, honked so loud that the recording clipped, life continued on. Hidden within all the hustle and bustle of this particular rush hour, there is a cacophonous symphony of human interaction. Xiaoximen is a great sonic observation deck.
Recorded by Taurin Barrera with an Edirol R-09 HR in Kunming, China, November 2011.
