this is a really lovely tune, and what do you use for your drum sounds? i like how the song keeps changing, then you hear a familiar bit again, and it all clicks into place.

Hi, thanks for the kind words! It was really just an experiment in seeing how many different chords I could squeeze into one piece! The drum sounds come from FXPansion's BFD2, with the kit heavily tweaked - snare and toms tuned up a bit and deadened... It's a great plugin, but pretty damned expensive, takes up a lot of space, and isnt terribly versatile... Still, you can get a lot out of it if you're willing to experiment, so it's worth a look if you can find a demo or something.

      I love the piano here.

@Spuddley: thanks! It's just Cadd9 Em7 and D, but there's a little F# G A run added in to jazz it up - when I wrote it (all those long years ago) I was intrigued that those three notes sounded very different when you played them first over the C and then over the E - obvious really, now I'm older and wiser, but back then it was a bit of a revelation, that harmonic context can really change the flavour of a group of notes... Listen to me harping on like I know what I'm talking about... Too much wine!

I am liking the added parts.. Loving the moods as well.

I wrote this something like seven years ago, on the piano we had in our student house in Huddersfield, but never came up with a decent title for it. Obviously, I've tried to record it before now, but every time something just wasn't right.

Finally, yesterday afternoon I was mucking around on an acoustic, and ended up playing it, much faster than it was when I originally wrote it. I recorded a simple little drum loop, then started tracking over that. I recorded the parts fairly loosely, and then did a quick 'set-it-and-forget-it' mix before making this bounce.

So it's only a rough demo, but it ought to give you the general idea, and that’s the point of first demos. Oh and there will be singing. Oh yes. Singing.

In seven long years, I still haven’t thought of a decent name for this. I might go with “I Can Think What You’re Telling”, but better suggestions are welcome – for the record, it’s about the feeling of being with someone you love in the rain at night and not minding or even really noticing that it’s cold, dark and wet, and half-expecting everything to fade to black like a happy ending in an arty weepy romantic film. The lyrics make even less sense.

I hope you like it.
