Born in San Francisco, California in 1983, Julio Salgado, a.k.a. Birth Defects, has been an international DJ and sound engineer in El Paso, TX and Ciudad Juárez, Mexico for the last 8 years. He has emerged as an innovative DJ with his vinyl repertoire which includes afro funk jazz, reggae dub, cumbia, funky disco and hip-hop. He has opened up for head lining bands such as Maldita Vecindad, Fuga, and Frontera Bugalu (http://www.fronterabugalu.com/).

Continuously on the forefront of creativity and innovation, he has mixed three CDs titled Blasfemia, Throbbing Ears and Super Cumbia Power Mix 2012 which focus on all types of genres to include, Cumbia, Afro-funk, 80’s and 90’s Hip-Hop, and Progressive House.

Always active in the community he has performed multiple benefit shows and festivals in both El Paso and Ciudad Juárez, to include: UTEP Union Exhibition Gallery (2006), Binational Festival Borde Manifiesta (2006-2011) and Museo de INBA de Ciudad Juárez (2012).

Endlessly revising and refining his craft, he has also been actively collaborating with two border collectives for the past 6 years, Movimiento Hunab ku (http://www.facebook.com/hunab.ku.526 ) in El Paso and Colectivo Rezizte (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Colectivo-Rezizte/118847684850642) in Ciudad Juárez.
