Ben Cohn is a first year student at California Institute of the Arts, majoring in Musical Arts. While mostly writing music in the styles of various video games, Ben is also developing a full-length musical comedy.
His first album, Land of the Gods, is currently available to purchase on CD Baby, iTunes and Amazon MP3 (as well as Bandcamp and other distributers at a later date). Inspired by the musical stylings of the massively popular Legend of Zelda video game series, Land of the Gods weaves an epic story that takes the listener on a magical journey through an original fantasy realm.
A sequel album, Land of the Gods, Volume II, is currently in development, as well as an album inspired by the Super Mario series.
For in-depth info on new songs, click the Tumblr link below.
His older projects include Clockwork, a video game concept drawing inspiration from the Legend of Zelda and Final Fantasy series.
Ben currently uses Sibelius 7 samples and Pro Tools to create his digital music. All pieces for Clockwork (unless otherwise noted) were made using Cakewalk Music Creator. Later tracks in Clockwork (starting with the Fields Theme) use custom MIDI instruments developed by Ben.
Ben started seriously composing in August, 2010. His favorite composers include Koji Kondo, Nobou Uematsu, Yoko Shimomura, Joe Hisaishi, Akira Senju, Ko Otani, Klaus Badelt, Hans Zimmer, Randy Newman, Darren Criss, and Alan Menken.
His top favorite games include Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Kingdom Hearts, Shadow of the Colossus, Mirror's Edge, Sonic Adventure 2: Battle, Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP, and Portal 2.
