Binaural seaside sounds from Pedn Vounder beach in Cornwall. Recorded in September 2010.

There is a blanket of wave sounds in these recordings, but I wanted to augment this by capturing some of the rock pool trickles and drips.

Very interesting. I would love to try out the Soundman mics. I think they are more expensive than the SP's. Although getting the SP's shipped from the USA did make them quite expensive. They have a fantastic reputation.

Have you ever used hydrophones or contact mics? The latter are really rather easy to make. I have one, but haven't really used it much. Hydrophones are very much unknown territory for me.

Can't wait to haven a proper listen to your recordings - I've had a quick listen, but need more time to really concentrate :-)

Oh, yes, it's the Soundman OKM II Klassik, I love them. I'm thinking of upgrading to the OKM II Klassik Studio. Since my preferred approach to phonography is with a pocket recorder (a Microtrack II), and I tend to record sounds made by people (urban soundscapes and environments), they are really excellent for the task. Their noise threshold is a bit too high for, say, nature recording, or dealing with very quiet domestic sounds, but, well, if I ever venture into that, I'd also need a better preamp/recorder.

I haven't tried out the Sound Professionals mics you use, and I'd like to try out more makes of binaurals, but, at the same time, I'd also like to experiment with hydrophones, contact mics, etc. And, looking at specs and prices, the kind of binaural mics that would really improve my recordings are way beyond my budget right now. So I might stick to the Suondman for a while.

That doesn't surprise me actually. And in the above situation I was in a very blowy environment.

Thank you for the links. 95 € does indeed sound dear for wind shields alone.

I must give your recordings a listen - how do you get on with your Soundman mics? I assume it's the OKM or OKM II?

I don't think the supplied foam protectors will "save" any of this kind of mics from the wind. Soundman (the makers of the mics I use) offer these: http://www.thomann.de/es/soundman_windschutz_fuer_okm_mikrofone.htm . Worn in cold weather, they shouldn't make you stand out from the crowd. But at 95 € I find them rather dear ;).

Uno from Radio Aporee started making his own windscreens. You can see his progress here: http://radioaporee.blogspot.com/ . I think it can give you some nice ideas for a DIY windscreen...

Thanks. Yes - even with the wind shields the SP-TFB-2's can't fully escape from the wind noise :-(

Very nice set! Very cold. And that dam wind again.
