About
Listen with headphones for optimal experience. Binaural recordings are designed to be played with headphones.
Binaural Airwaves is a blog about binaural recording with a high fidelity binaural podcast of independent music and interesting sounds from around the world.

I'm pretty sure it is hand taps on the acoustic guitar as well as acoustic double bass. Everyone is kind of playing various items rhythmically here.
@leyink: You should become a lighthouse keeper!
@leyink: I'm pretty sure it was 6/17/2009
This slide reminds me of Dick Dale. It's like hearing the primary source.
Was this recorded with an iPhone?
Great how this chord arrival works with the beat!
I really like how the hyper-realistic percussion sounds work with the vocal intimacy.
This vocal harmonization is magical.
This is such a nice vignette/intro. It so concisely sets up the emotion of the song.
The distorted pad synth adds such great texture here.
Really nice how when I turn my head, as to not get run over by the passing car, the musician adapts to the interruption.
@(((R1G))): Interesting... do you mean the signal flow is like this: left-&rt;3 left ear speakers AND right-&rt;3 right ear speakers? My 5.1 headphones have 3 stereo mini jacks so I assume you're doing some interesting routing via your soundcard interface.
70's:Tape Hiss::00's:this (I associate this sound with listening to audio from a desktop computer--at least many PC's)
Have you ever considered using harmonographs as a visual component to compliment and work with your sounds? Harmonographs give such a beautiful high level "planetary" visual intuition to the magical "atomic" tone interactions that create the foundation of harmony. Seems like it could be a great way to tie your macro and micro views together in an artistically elegant way. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harmonograph
@eliransegev: Make sure your landlord doesn't find out.
Nature (crickets)... meet music. Awesome.
The sonority is breathtaking.
haha
Beautiful reverberance.
This wind sounds like I'd imagine for Nepal... how did you capture this??? Wind is so touchy with mics.
@Ambassadeurs: I try not to effect anything as it could distort the phase. I do have small windscreens on the elements themselves but they only do so much. It was pretty windy in Tsfat because it is on the side of a large hill/mountain. Nice views though.
For binaural, these are great mics to start out with: http://www.soundprofessionals.com/cgi-bin/gold/item/SP-TFB-2 I recommend the Marantz PMD620 highly (great sound quality, robust, small). The Zoom H2 is supposed to be good too. Ollie Hall at BinauralDiaries uses the H2 and clearly has great results. Here is a link to his setup using the same SF-TB-2 mics: http://www.binauraldiaries.co.uk/p/gear.html
I would really love to make high quality recordings to a mobile device for more direct and timely upload to SoundCloud. Also, having geocoding of a recording from the mobile GPS sensor would add yet another layer of experience richness, since so many interesting binaural recordings transverse a space. Imagine seeing little paths all over a Google Earth, each one representing a different sonic experience on a unique path (or similar path: e.g. all recordings of Times Square). Has this ever been discussed at SoundCloud?
Of course video does a good job of heightening the experience too. This is something I've been really interested in lately: http://vimeo.com/binauralairwaves
I particularly enjoy the multi-dimensional experience of this--like watching an x-ray video of a weight lifter but in sound.
I really love how the high pitch belittles the string harmonics (whose usual effect is the effect of the high pitch)
What do you record with? mics/configuration/etc.?
@Kall Binaural Audio: Thanks! Such a great song and group of musicians...
Very cool: the sound of a crackling fire is great for binaural. Beautiful recording.
@Aron86: Yeah, this syncopation is rad!
Wings cutting through air is such a powerful sound.
This track is insane. Can you describe what all these sounds are? It is so complex and I don't know what to make of it.
Kind of frightening to feel like these people are passing right by you while you stand on the corner. Cool.
What is this?
These echos are breathtaking.
This is really nice.
This space has really pleasant reverberance.
WOAH!!! This is an amazing sound.
I really like this string sample
Cool interlude
This sound is insane! ... especially with headphones
Really cool how this vocal is transformed into a kind of synth element
