"A Simple Place", for solo violin and pre-recorded strings, was composed for my long-time collaborator and dear friend Todd Reynolds. Commissioned by Musiqa and inspired by the exhibit "Answers to Questions" (John Wood and Paul Harrison) at the Contemporary Art Museum Houston, the work continues to explore my interest in blurring the line between soloist and accompaniment. While the work begins with solo violin, the material quickly passes to the accompanying instruments, gradually enveloping the soloist in a virtual ensemble of fifteen instruments.
