About

The stems (these are the raw parts of the tracks, like the drum stem, the vocal stem, the guitar stem etc that are put together in a final mix to produce the finished track) appear under the track names alone. The way each tracks stem is constructed is simple. Rather than uploading each individual stem in turn, for each song we have placed the stems together in a line to produce one long track, a compilation of the all songs stems, approximately 30 mins long. Each track starts with the vocal stem, and then is followed by the rest of the stems, guitars etc. Each individual stem is separated from the next by a short loud burst of a square wave. So once you have downloaded all the compiled stem into your sequencer (Ableton, Pro Tools etc), you can chop each individual stem before the square wave and line up the square waves so the stems all start together at the correct point.

'Quicken The Heart' was recorded by Maximo Park in LA over 5 weeks in September and October for 2008 with producer Nick Launay, known for working with PiL, Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds and The Yeah Yeah Yeahs amongst many others. The album was released worldwide on Warp Records on May 11th 2009. If you're not too familiar with the record, full mixed versions of each of the 12 tracks are available here to listen to. Look for the track names followed by the word 'sine', indicating that a sine wave sound has been placed periodically through the tracks to stop them being passed around for free. Don't worry - you'll get the gist of the tracks despite this.
