Andy Bgpz started DJing in Manchester in 1990, including residencies at: "Happiness", warming up for Sasha at the inaugural night (no pressure there, then); a much-loved token monthly "dance night" at Salford Uni that grew from 40 to 600 within months with the help of the likes of Hacienda FM, Luv Dup, and Rob Bright; and at the first incarnation of Manumission playing chilled wonky stuff alongside a certain Mr Scruff in a pleasantly surreal dive in Manchester's Gay Village.
As part of the Raya, Triology and SoxaN crews, he spent a decade and a half or so putting on audio-visual rave-ups at the likes of the ICA, Big Chill and the Ryhthm Factory (and some frankly questionable afterparties).
Other activities include writing the clubs and dance music section for The Big Issue North West in the mid-90s (in spite of sub-editors that couldn't tell the difference between punk and funk - which made for some interesting listings some weeks), and random stuff for other nice people since then. Radio stuff's included In The City FM and Sunset 102 (Manchester), and several Big Chill FMs (from the Enchanted Garden to Eastnor).
Now resident in Canada, he continues to enthuse about music, randomly trainspot and talk shite on air via the magic of the interweb on http://www.purple-radio.co.uk (and plays nice tunes, too). He's still been known to DJ/VJ out for ale and pork scratchings.
