About
Bertel Haugen was born on a small farm in rural Wales to a Dutch mother and a Norwegian father. His name is Norwegian, he lives in the UK but he holds a Dutch passport. He now lives in London where he works for an organic food company by day and writes and records quirky folk songs by night. Bertel uses all sorts of household implements, from pencils to whisks, to create his drum sounds and plays all the instruments himself. He has had some songs played on BBC radio by DJs Bethan Elfyn, Adam Walton, Cerys Matthews and Tom Robinson. His music has been described as "sweet, naïve, innocent but gorgeous". Having studied classical composition, he has also written a short symphony, which was performed by the Kingston Chamber Orchestra. He is influenced by artists such as Joni Mitchell, Gorkys Zygotig Mynci, Joanna Newsom, Bill Callahan and Animal Collective amongst others.
Bertel’s self-produced and self-released album ‘Musty Pasty Dusty’ is available to buy directly from his website www.bertelhaugen.com
