Beat Assassins Biography 2011
Electro productions on breakbeat drum patterns, enhanced by urban vocals; this is the distinctive “urban electro” sound of Beat Assassins.
In 2006 a mutual love of hip-hop and underground dance music led Jimmy Mofo & DJ Wooz to get together in a shed in Harpenden to write a couple of tracks... but one thing led to another and, before they knew it, Beat Assassins had become an established act and launched their own label Mofo Recordings.
Their production standards and urban electro style rapidly evolved, leading to 2007/8 hits including We Run Tings, Gun Clip and The Hotness (ft Yolanda & Ragga Twins). This led to nominations for Best Breakthrough Act at the International Breakbeat Awards for two consecutive years.
In 2009/10 Beat Assassins released their 4-part series called Urban Electro Project (UEP), consisting of four original Assassins’ tracks plus remixes from their favourite producers within the genres of breakbeat, bassline house and fidget house. These include AC Slater (Boom Style), Calvertron (Direct Hit VIP), NAPT (Put Em Up) and Peo De Pitte (Straight To The World). This project has won support from Stanton Warriors, Groove Armada, Utah Saints, Plump DJs and Dub Pistols.
Alongside their own productions Beat Assassins found time to remix WFT by Tittsworth (ft Kid Sister & Pase Rock) on Hot Cakes, plus a massive remix of Bounce & Rebound by Deekline & Wizard (ft Top Cat & Yolanda) on Against The Grain.
Beat Assassins have caught the attention of promoters wanting a dancefloor-driven urban vibe in their clubs. Wooz’s DMC scratching skills and Jimmy’s seventeen years DJ experience have enabled Beat Assassins to tear up clubs and festivals across the UK, Europe, Russia, Australia and America with their high octane DJ sets that throw down an eclectic mix of breaks, electro, dubstep, wonky house and drum n’ bass. In 2012 Wooz is concentrating on his drum n bass project Sigma while Jimmy Mofo is still producing and DJing as Beat Assassins and has written some fresh tracks that will be coming out later this year.
