In a rare interview clip, John Zorn explains how his epoch-defining and highly influential 90s jazz-thrash band Naked City ended up covering Ornette Coleman's 'Lonely Woman' at the same time as Roy Orbison's 'Pretty Woman'.

The composer, multi-instrumentalist and avant-garde firestarter celebrates his 60th birthday this Monday and in tribute Jazz on 3 presents a John Zorn special featuring exclusive archive performances from his Bar Kokhba and Masada groups. BBC 6 Music's Stuart Maconie also joins Jez Nelson to share his favourite tracks from Zorn's varied and prolific career. Join them on BBC Radio 3 at 11pm on Monday 2 September, or listen again for 7 days after broadcast:
