The spread of riots in the UK last summer left many communities devastated by arson, looting and violence.

More than 3000 people were arrested and those convicted of offences received heavy sentences for sometimes minor offences.

Hackney resident Pauline Pearce has been dubbed the heroine of Hackney after she challenged looters in her neighbourhood. The showdown was filmed on a mobile phone and soon became a Youtube sensation.

Kenya, Newsday's young reporter, a teenager lives in east London and has been looking at events in London tied to the Olympics. She caught up with Pauline in a café in Hackney to look back at the riots one year on.
