2. Boomtown
(words by Sarah Smith Campbell, published in her book 'Idlewild' (1954)
arranged by Thomas B. Oliverio)
What is this strange excitement
That has come over us,
That people are discussing
on every crowded bus?
What is it that has shattered
Our town's complacent calm,
Sudden and unexpected
As an atomic bomb?
Our streets, so lately quiet,
Are jammed with trucks and cars,
And full of strange new people
Who might have come from Mars;
Courteous, friendly people,
Yet they seem hurried too,
Not having time to stop and talk
The way we home folks do.
Workmen with steel and concrete
Build houses by the score,
Hotels and shops and picture-shows
Find customers galore.
Now what has caused this flurry
That has us all awry-
Could they perchance be building
Atomic plants close by?
(Josh Coffey-viola, electric guitar; Thomas B. Oliverio-mandolin, percussion, lead vocals; Eddie Coffey-upright bass; Brey McCoy-saxophone, xylophone; Zach Coffey-acoustic guitar; JP Patterson-keys)

This is a great track. Wish vocals were a little less muted, more brassy, but what do I know. It's sundown dope.
