About
Hannah Holland's Batty Bass project began life as a one-off party with co-pilot
Mama back in 2006 celebrating the chaotic mess of influences that formed their
favourite music from deep, dark techno to jungle, dubstep, garage, acid the wonkier
side of electro and the very first bleeps of house music. Hannah's jump-up energy
behind the decks combined with Mama's unique charisma on the mic very swiftly
made Batty Bass an instant smash. Four years on and the parties are as inspiringly
wild as ever; the flock continues to swell with ever increasing numbers and the
charged atmosphere is a perfect storm of carnival and house party. Musically there
is nothing else quite like it.
As the Batty Bass phenomenon snowballed it spawned a cult podcast, a genius
clothing range and a cheeky line in merchandise all tied together visually by the
talented hand of illustrator, designer and artist Alex Noble who has managed to
create an alternative universe for this surrogate disco family to live in; his unique
and iconic images appear on all the artwork, flyers, posters, website and even this
very compilation.
It was only natural for Hannah and her Batty Bass collective to start a label
showcasing their melting pot of DIY dance music. Batty Bass records has quickly
established itself as a credible outlet for truly original and underground music
mutating in style with every release. Contributers including Jahcoozi, POSH!,
Keaton, PIlocka, Feral, Andre j & Warboy plus Hannah & Mama themselves skillfully
weave through the gaps between techno, dubstep, house, hip-hop and ragga to
create a label with a far more imaginative output than your average dance imprint. to
describe the music itself almost defeats the point! just have a listen. And a dance.
