Born in Hong Kong, Hong started learning the bass at the age of 16 and began to play rock music two years later. At 23, he shifted his musical focus onto pop and jazz. His skillful sounds are heard in recordings of many Canto-pop singers, like Miriam Yeung, Twins, Gigi Leung, Sally Yeh, Candy Lo, Faye Wong, Andy Hui, Alan Tam, Hacken Lee, Eason Chan, Karen Mok,and many more. His music career reached a new height with his touring with Asian pop diva Faye Wong from 2004 to 2006. He also wrote the film score for the award-winning Cantonese movie “Sum Sze Sze” in the 90s.

Also an acclaimed jazz musician, Hong has made his mark in the local and international jazz scene. His name can be found in many local and international jazz festivals and gigs like the Krakow Art Festival (Poland) 2001, Seoul Fringe Festival 2005, gigs in Shanghai and Tsing Tao in 2005 (with jazz band "JR"), Hong Kong Jazz Festival 2005, Vietnam Cultural Festival 2006 and Bangkok International Jazz Festival 2006 (both with Tamaya Honda and Hong Kong's jazz legends Eugene Pao and Ted Lo). In 2008, Hong was invited to be the special guest performer in critically-acclaimed Taiwanese jazz band Sizhukong's Hong Kong concert. His success brought on a fruitful year in 2009 where Hong hosted popular jazz program "Jazzing Up" at Radio Television Hong Kong, was featured in the Hong Kong International Jazz Festival, the World Music Festival (Guangzhou, China), the Taichung Jazz Festival (Taiwan), and the Sri Lanka Jazz Festival. Hong will feature in Sri Lanka Jazz fest 2010 and The Expo Shanghai with Eugene Pao,Ted Lo,Andrew Gander and Paulo Levi in October 2010.
