@♬Barclaybunch♩♪: And probably in one year or so the album is going to disappoint you. But all in all, this is just another "aficionados" discussion. I've to congratulate you David in open and maintaining this space. Thanks a lot man.

@♬Barclaybunch♩♪: Hymn Of The Seventh Galaxy I think it's the second Return to Forever LP has Bill Conners. Check it out when you have a moment. Great!

@Lee >>> Lucas: I know Jaco is just relentless, evolving that baseline on every iteration. In fact, I'm gonna put it on again now. I never tire of this track.

@Lee >>> Lucas: I absolutely love this piece and he does it so much justice. With all his technical ability he could have easily jazzed it up with licks and runs, but he kept it pure. Great work.

@Lee >>> Lucas: I know it was a toss up, but this one's got Jaco on it, so it won the choice. Elegant Gipsy has also got some amazing tracks too. I've got Casino, it's good, but getting a bit samey I thought.

@Gary Sunshine: Thanks Gary, I will check him out. I know what you mean, some artists seem unreachable, they're so good technically, you know you'll never be able to play anything like them, but others have that touch which makes them accessible and grounded. Chick Corea is another example, I mean he plays with such feeling and technical ability I've never even attempted to learn any of his stuff, but I love it in awe. I think I'm gonna dig out Romantic Warrior and give that a spin again, amazing stuff. Glad you enjoyed it, more next week, I'll see what catches my ear again.

@zak zarapantão: Sounds like a plan, we'll be on the next plane :), if only :( This is the point of this podcast, I love the debate and passion. I am passionate about music and I love to hear other points of view. I can kinda see what you mean Rui, when I listened to this album again to review it, I was of the pre-conception that every track was great and the whole album was fantastic. However, I've matured both physically and mentally quite a bit over the last few years, not only personally, but musically too, as a I result of this, it isn't the album it once was to me, it's good and there are two excellent tracks on it, but the whole concept isn't there, Al Di Meola is a great musician but not a visionary. He is is an excellent band member, but not a lead, the same as, for example, Eric Clapton, who has written a few excellent songs, but his performance as I band member is totally outstanding and by far his biggest talent. The same as Brian May, Larry Carlton, Snowy White. All amazing musicians but lack that key skill of vision, I'd love to be able to play guitar even 1% as good as they do, but then I bet all they want to do is write a song.

Good choice David. I used to go see Return To Forever when they first went electric. Bill Conners on guitar, Lenny White, Stanley Clarke and Chick Corea. Then when Bill left (he was very young) saw Al several times. Fabulous band. I was blown away by Bill Conners so seeing Al took me a few minutes to get used to. Flashier playing but I was so into Bill Conners, so much, it's really worth checking both out. Brilliant. This is a great record and I'm glad you picked it. I think when I listened or saw Al I was always intimidated because I could never do what he did where I thought I might be able to "be" Bill Conners (naive but hopeful) and could relate playing wise more to Bill. I think both played Les Pauls so I was right in there. Thanks David!!

@Lee >>> Lucas: I even own some of his albums. Even on vinyl. All are consistently the worst albums I have. He just can't lead any play. Is a little bit like some of the actual solid guitar superstars (I know that you know to whom I'm referring) that are completely incapable of producing a piece of music with head, chest and members (do you use this expression in English?). The last time I heard Al Di Meola doing anything audible was of Friday Night in SF, all the rest is highly technical virtuoso rubbish. And especially when he remembers to ask for the Brazilian influence. Is a pity to see high talented musicians like Airto Moreira and others being leaded into such indifferent works. Ok, I'm being really outrageous and I don't want to offend you or David or anyone. I'm sorry but is what I feel. The beauty of this is that we are here discussing this, something that I'm passionate for. Much better if it was in person with a couple of beers...

@zak zarapantão: Wow you surprise me Rui how you never liked this guy. I have to admit the guy can sometimes be sporadic in Return to Forever material, but I do not think so on his solo output. I regard his solo work as by far his best. I have 7 of this guys albums and they are all pretty good stuff. Not over the top and very well executed guitar playing. This album here I think all 6 tracks are fab, to me it does not have a bad track at all.

I tried, Lord knows I tried, several times, but never, never, never liked any Al Di Meola solo album. This comment is here in deep respect to David and his AOTWP amazing podcast. Thanks David, cheers ;O)
