Great choice with this one! Steely Dan are there at the top of my musical preferences. Their compositional skills are superb and a constant inspiration to me! I particularly like 'Royal Scam' but their other records, too, are beautiful. And now I'm going to listen all their discography back again!

"Don't take me alive": beautiful music and really dark lyrics ("I hear my inside / The mechanized hum of another world")

Ooh yes! This is one of my favorite albums ever, not only of Steely Dan but from an absolute standpoint! I get shivers each time I listen to 'Kid Charlemagne', the music is superb, the lyrics are really out of this world ("All those day-glow freaks who used to paint the face / They joined the human race"). These guys are geniuses!

@♬Barclaybunch♩♪: Yeah thats a fab track and so to is Jack of Speed, Jamie Runaway, Cousin Dupree. Two Against Nature Plush TV DVD is a live concert of theirs. That DVD is totally busting mate, the tracks off Two Against Nature that are on it, are a lot better live. The sound is 1st class in DTS 5.1 it blows you away. The sound engineers behind that concert were totally stunning. It's one of my top 5.1 recordings for shear quality and class.

@♬Barclaybunch♩♪: Back in them days I very rarely brought singles, I was very much an albums man, but that one I had to have straight away.

@Lee >>> Lucas: There's something for everyone with Steely Dan, I listned through all their albums again and this is the only one that have no turkeys on it for me. It was a tough choice, I'll probably do another, I went through a fad of buying one a week until I had them all, and loved every one of them, but Two against nature, I just can't get into it :( Maybe I'll give it another go, I quite like fanny by gaslight or what ever it's called :)

@Lee >>> Lucas: That's a great story, I miss the days when you heard something and went into the shop saying have you got the one that goes 'Insert bad rendition here' , they were the days :)

@Lee >>> Lucas: Too me a long while, but I got there in the end. Have you heard the unreleased tracks btw? One is called the Second Arrangement that later became The Third World Man, look them up, they're amazing,

@♬Barclaybunch♩♪: Steely Dan was never one of my favorites. I do recognize the intrinsic qualities of the band but that soft jazz approach is not to my taste. BUT, the same doesn't happen with Donald's solo albums, specially Kamakiriad, that I like very much. Think that Donald's vision much more expanded and experimental in this work. Do you know it? do you agree with me? Thanks David for a fantastic blog. Love it. Cheers

@Lee >>> Lucas: It is great, they all are for me, that is why I picked it. The other albums have got excellent tracks on them but one or two not so good. Everyone raves over Aja, but for me it's gotta be either this or Gaucho, Glamour Profession and Third World Man!!!!!! Never mind the title track. But then again their first album, can't buy me a trill is a top album that lived in my car for many a month looping. There's a very special place in my hear for Katy Lied too, Dr. Woo is probably my favourite song.

@Lee >>> Lucas: I tell you what I used to agree with Gatcho, but I love it now, it took me years to 'get it' but it is one of my faves. Aja is a bit weaker, but the song Deacon Blues is one of their best.

@♬Barclaybunch♩♪: I.G.Y I mean, now that is a class song, I think the Nightfly was one of the first albums to be produced totally digitally, the production is well, indescribable.
