@The Celturian: Cheers for listening. Is any of your bands stuff available to listen to?

Nice one David. One of the most prog jazz and fusion that in the UK nobody does, and Bass players like Stanley Clarke and Al Di Meola with jazz latino, is something I;m doing with our band, like my bro Lee says my older Brother loves weather Report to bits and bunched with highly skilled musicians.

@♬Barclaybunch♩♪: but you know one thing, at the same time I was absolutelly fascinated with Mahavishnu's Birds of Fire and Soft Machine's Fourth, curious no? When I was refering "song" it was in its broader sense, not in the typical 3 minutes track, ok? Great to speak with you about this. Thanks

@zak zarapantão: I don't see this as an album of songs, it's so much more for me, they're taking me on a journey and communicating on a very deep level. It took me years to 'get' this album, I kept listening because of the individual talent of each musician, these are bench mark performers, but over the years, my connection has become much deeper, the whole body of work, for me, is a masterpiece. But then there's other albums that others feel the same about. In my top ten albums the list changes, as I evolve and develop my own music as well as grow emotionally, but this is always firmly at the top of that list. If I'd released this as AOTWP episode one, it would have been a very short series indeed, it would have said, Heavy Weather by Weather Report, best album ever, the end........ But there's so much amazing music out there and so much I haven't even discovered yet. Thanks for listening and taking the time to comment :)

I always had mixed feelings about this album. Fantastic instrumentists but somehow "songs" weren't there. Nevertheless one of my references... thanks a lot David for rememering this. Keep on the good work. Cheers

@Lee >>> Lucas: RTF gonna feature soon, one of their albums contributed so much to my life, what power and control, everyone at top of their game. @tuonela Jaco is one, if not the best musician for me, he communicates on such a deep level.

@Donald Gisbey: I perhaps need to research this more, I am a fan of Joni but what!!!!! Jaco's on it! I'm gonna get that for sure! Well done your lad, that's amazing, you must be really proud :) This album has been with me for years and it still totally blows me away. With Jaco, a sad, sad end to a wonderful talent :( Thank you very much for this addition, and thanks for listening, kind regards, David.

@Lee >>> Lucas: I reckon this track was Jaco's finest moment. Gets more out of an electric bass than anyone I've ever heard, more like Ron Carter playing with the bow. Sublime stuff.

@♬Barclaybunch♩♪: Now Return to Forever I very much Like, well not all their albums but most of them. They did a come back last year and did a concert live at Montreux I got it on Blu Ray it's totally stunning, the production is by far the best sounding Blu Ray I own, for alive concert and I have quit a few. The 5.1 is awesome on it.

The swing band I`m in plays Birdland, a wonderful song. Jaco Pastorius is my son`s inspiration in his bass playing.(He played "Portrait of Tracy" for his higher music performance, and the examiner gave him 100%) I`m with you 100% on this choice of Weather Report album, and for me they were the best of the Jazz Rock genre. I do have one other record though, which I find as inspirational, and that`s Joni Mitchell`s Mingus, which Pastorius both plays on and wrote the brass section parts. Charlie Mingus collaborated with Joni on the writing, and for me it`s her best moment. Mingus died before the album was released so it became a kind of requiem for him too. Just to add a little to the Pastorius story, he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, but not till later, so his behaviour was seen as antisocial and not to do with illness. When he became more involved with alcohol and drugs, this made things worse till he couldn`t get work any more, and was evicted from his flat, living on the streets towards the end. So very tragic... alas often the case with the most creative people! Really good to see you posting this! (and a surprise somewhat too!) Thanks!

@Lee >>> Lucas: I got into this branch genre of Jazz, I stem from this, Return to Forever, Al Di Meola solo stuff. I have this album well and truly etched into my skull. I think for me it's the mixture of latin percussion and synths fused with the jazz that makes this magical for me. But as you say, each to his own :)

@♬Barclaybunch♩♪: This ones got a bit more spark in it, but once again does not appeal to me, it's far to sporadic and to does nothing for me at all. We can't all have the same taste though mate, and to all those who love this band fair play to them.

Lee >>> Lucas at 1.19 on January 17, 2012 20:16
@♬Barclaybunch♩♪: Just give this one a spin and I can see this is very much one of their much more serious Jazz albums rather than their funked up stuff. This is nice flowing music, and very nicely played, but the music is very much like the chillout out stuff they used to play when they put something like Job finder on TV. at 3 am in the morning. It's relaxing but unfortunately it' would get very few spins in my record collection, and would very much gather dust. I do love Jazz, but there are other varieties to it, that have more appeal to me than this. There is a couple of SC artists here who I could name, that to me say a lot more than this here in my book.

Well my oldest brother is a big fan of this band, and very much has all their albums, he sent to them to me once by digital download, and I found some of their albums interesting, but not interesting enough for me to keep. I ended up binning the albums, I think they are good muso' s but are far to bizarre from album to the next. Your either into this music or you are not sort of thing, it never did appeal to me. Not even the pure Jazz that was in Birdland, to which I have heard many of times. I suppose it's a bit like having a football team made out of all the top players, it does not mean a thing, unless they can gel together and play as a team. But I will give a c couple of vids here you posted a blast, just as a reminder.

Wow great choice. I used to go see them back in the day... The great great Wayne Shorter...Saw them with Jaco and without. Brilliant and incredible. The 2 or three albums around the time of Heavy Weather are also great. Wow. Jaco's solo record soon after was also great, worth having absolutely!!! Does a Charlie Parker tune (Donna Lee I believe)unaccompanied......great to hear this thanks for mentioned.
