Larry's Badger and Gnu If Your Names Not Down, You're Not Coming In
January 8th 2012 David Bowie is 65! Wow that makes me feel old. Anyway I've decided to pay homage to one of his all time great albums, there are loads to choose from, but I thought I'd go with his original classic, Hunky Dory.

@zak zarapantão: I'm only familiar with the fist few albums, I'll have to investigate this further, I remember hearing a KC track at someone's house once, not sure of the album, but the track was like an ambient track with a trumpet that sounded like a fly buzzing around, I remember thinking that's great! I will have to delve further into this, thanks Rui

In my opinion the better KC is of the 80s, with Bill Brufford, Tony Levin, Adrian Belew and of course, Robert Fripp. But I follow the band from the first album and even before (who remembers Giles, Giles & Fripp?)

@Demis CousCous: It sounds like him, and it says it's him, so it must be. I thought Herbie Flowers was on bass too, but I not too sure on that one. Thanks for listening.

Everytime I put a log on a fire I sing "Put another log on the fire for me, I'll make some breakfast and coffee-ee".

@Anmafean: Bowie is a true showman, excellent performer. CK love, love that album, probably going to do a review of that at some point, as it has shaped the way I write and listen to music, so it fits the AOTWP philosophy. Thanks for listening.

@♬Barclaybunch♩♪: Fantastic album. With one of my favourite tracks of all time "Epitaph". In my opinion CK was never the same, on vocal department, after Greg Lake's departure.
You know that "21st Century Schizoid Man" is the preffered song of ... Tony Blair??!!About Bowie one of the things I've loved, the most, was is tremendous gig in Live Aid with Thomas Dolby in keyboards.

@Diederik de Jonge: Yeah, now that is a good album, forgot about that one, I'll look into it. I read somewhere that Mott the Hoople were championed by Bowie. But I bet now, he wishes he'd released that song himself :) Just like Prince with Nothing Compares to You.

@♬Barclaybunch♩♪: That was another of the great 70's groups - Mott The Hoople :) You can tell where my head was at in those days. Which reminds me, you should do a review of Lou Reed's Transformer, probably the most influential album to come out of that era. Just a thought :)) Keep up the good work !

@Diederik de Jonge: I've got most of his stuff on my ipod, with the exception of most of the 90s stuff, but little wonder isn't too bad, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=awm-gFy7G-o

@Lee >>> Lucas: He's not everyones cup of tea, but I think he is something different to everyone, he's a trend setter, rather than a follower, and he won and lost a lot of fans every move he made. Scary Monsters, Lets Dance era is where I came in and I like both of those albums very much, Tonight less so, but I do love his version of 'God Only Knows'. He seems to be a man, like Steve Jobs, who created stuff for himself, but it was good, so a lot of people bought into it and followed. Yeah, I bet Bowie wishes he performed 'All the Young Dudes' himself, it's a great anthem, one of the best, now you've reminded me of it, I'm singing it away, 'All the young duuuuudddeeess.....' brilliant.

Life on Mars as always been my favorite Bowie record, it's shear class. I brought the single when it came out, and the B side was something like the Man Who Sold The World which later Lulu done a cover version of. Another one of my favorite Bowie moments was is vocals on Mott the Hooples All the Young Dudes, now that song to me outweighs anything he as ever done in my opinion, and as much as I love Life on Mars and Space Oddity, All the young dudes I can play over and over and over, and I did when it came out, and still very can play it today. Listening to some of the stuff on this album, I find it a bit of a mixed bag myself. I never did like Changes, and I suppose I never will. Quicksand is a pretty good track on this album. His later stuff like Lets Dance I could throw up just thinking about it lol.................Hunky Dory to me is not solid enough to be classed as what I would call a class album, there is to many diversities in it. That's my personal feel of this one mate.

One of my favourite albums of all time. The period from Space Oddity to Alladin Sane was some seriously good music. I still listen to these albums and they permanently reside on my iPod. Great times indeed :)).

@WayB4: It's a classic, I was aware of the hits such as Changes and Life on Mars, but when I heard the whole album about 6-7 years ago, I understood what Bowie was all about. Since then I've bought most of his albums, but not the Tin Machine ones, don't really get them. Even in this century he's made some great stuff, the Album Heathen is amazing. Most people seem to be favouring Life on Mars and 'Another', for me it's probably Life on Mars and Quicksand, but there's a special place in my heart for Eight Line Poem, amazing album by an amazing artist. Thanks for listening :)

Hi, thank you for this review on one of my favorite Bowie's albums! This was one of the first albums of his I ever heard and it absolutely stunned me. I think Bowie is one of the best songwriters in the last decades and this record showcases his talent at his best. Every song is a masterpiece, each one different from the other. I literally learned songwriting from records like this! Difficult to chose among these songs but I would name Life On Mars and Bewlay Brothers as two of my favorites!
