Fingerprints is the debut album of Brian Cares to be released on the Bar25 record label.
This project is a series of recordings and intends to be a continuous one. Fingerprints is the result of sessions with an international roster of artists and friends. It is also meant to show another face of the output of Brian Cares. He appeared with more dance oriented tracks on labels like Forcetracks, Sportclub, Freizeitglauben, Hoerspielmusik, Blaou, Bar25...
All artists on „Fingerprints“ are respected ones in their own fields, gaining credibility within years of public appearance and performance.
Howard Katz is constantly working with his band Post Holocaust Pop, as theatrical performer and
teacher of his own mixture of improvised dance and martial arts in Berlin and NYC.
Brian and Howard met in 2003 and started the project Roadmovie in 2005. At the moment they are working on Howards first soloalbum in 25 years of musicianship.
Justine Electra released her debutalbum „Soft Rock“ on Bungalow Records in 2006 and was instantly loved by the press and fans for her incredible voice and songwriting abilities.
Justine was introduced to Brian by Jake and Raz while Brian already knew Justine´s voice from hearing her critically acclaimed album and knew, he really had to work with her voice.
Raz Ohara released his debutalbum „Realtime Voyeur“ in 2000 on Kitty Yo. Sideprojects with
Alexander Kowalski made him a worldwide known and respected artist. He appears now on Get Physical with his Odd Orchestra. Raz is currently touring southamerica with Apparat & Band as well as with his own band. Raz was introduced to Brian in the late 90ies and some time went by until they got together in the studio. Their first project was a recording for the Bar25 label in 2007.
Jacob Dove Basker, the man of many faces, released his album „The Rapper“ on Combination Records in 2005 and is constantly touring live and as Dj. Brian met Jake at the Bar25 and was immediately intrigued by his excellent sense of humour and writing abilities. The recordings for Jake´s 2nd soloalbum will start in early 2009.
Brian Cares – Tuning in tuning on
Brians affair with audio started in the late 90ies. Inspired by the sounds of popmusic he heard on the radio in the 80ies he started a career as studio assistant. While making first attempts in producing backing tracks for commercial productions he also developed his Dj career. His Dj sets became as versatile as his general music understanding.
While touring southamerica, asia and europe as a Dj he developed his skills working as studio assistant, ProToolsOperator, and commercial music producer. His first release ever „Sonntags“ became a classic and was chosen as maintheme for the film „Sonntags in Berlin“. He also wrote and conducted the score. Besides that Brian produced musical pieces used in national TV commercials.
Finding commercial and electronic dance music production quite limited and stereotype, he started the recordings for „Fingerprints“ around 2005.
The aim on this project is finally just to have fun and collaborate with professional artist to produce a sound he always had in his head. Brian sees himself rather in the role of a director than as an musician. From this point of view „Fingerprints“ is beeing his personal playground to fool around with ideas and stories.
This attitude is inspired by the work of the ones like Quincy Jones, Frank Farian, Brian Burton, Matthew Herbert, Brian Eno just to name a few. As these people, Brian is alway on the run for the perfect song and a new sound of sound .
The album
Most material on „Fingerprints“ was recorded at Brians homestudio from 2005 to 2007.
Due to the fact, that the songs were sounding quite different, the decision was made to rent a professional studio and re-mix the material. The mixsessions took place in summer 2008 at Studio Wong. Using an analogue mixingboard, high end audio gear and tapemachines Brian was able to glue the sound of „Fingerprints“ together and develop the trademark sound of his production.
The label
Knowing the people of the Bar25 staff since a decade and beeing involved in the Bar25 universe as resident Dj from day one, it was a quite logical step to collaborate with his friends, as the open mindness and fun factor surrounding this place is an integral part of Brians work. Although there were some offers from „big players“ Brian decided to stay local and release his work within a familiar atmosphere.
The future
A live presentation of „Fingerprints“ is under construction and will play selected shows in 2009.
A music video for „SaySay“ is currently beeing edited and will hopefully be made public by the end of 2008.
