About

bani haykal writes music + narratives. He is published with one book of poetry (Sit Quietly In The Flood) and has read / presented works in several festivals including The Kuala Lumpur International Literary Festival, Singapore Arts Festival, Singapore Design Festival and The M1 Fringe Festival. His work with music includes being the vocalist and principle songwriter for alternative rock band, b-quartet, writer to performance / music collective, mux and a relatively new, unnamed, audio-visual collective. With b-quartet, he has written and performed on 2 records (tomorrow is our permanent address / conformity has replaced consciousness) and with mux, has written / performed and directed solo performances at The Esplanade (What Day Is It Today?) and The Substation (The Unpressionist / People Without People). Presently, he is researching on music and culture, whilst developing several systems pertaining to storytelling and music, mirroring modern day Singapore. As part of his on-going research, he has presented the first series of music explorations entitled 'alternatives' at The Substation Gallery in 2011.
