About
CONTACT: bananahill@hotmail.co.uk
Banana Hill was created in 2010 by a bored Mancunian called Jack. After travelling around the world for half a year, the post-backbacker-blues soon manifested themselves into an idea. Named after an actual hill nearby where Jack lives, Banana Hill represents a convergence of global grooves and pulsating rhythyms. Unfortunately though, there are no Banana trees in Manchester.
Upon his arrival at Sheffield University, Jack met a loveable Geordie named Chris, who shared his love for big beats and flamboyant funk.
After a successful radio show, Banana Hill morphed into a club night, which showcased some of Sheffield’s best new bands, and later, some top electronic and African acts based in the UK.
As Banana Hill evolved, music from Africa as well as Latin America began to appear more frequently alongside the contemporary UK electronic styles showcased on the site. Life is a constant carnival on Banana Hill.
Here, we aim to create a network of musical styles from around the world. You can find anything from: Afrobeat, Hip-hop, Jazz, Funk-Carioca, Kuduro, Moombah, Soul, Kwaito, House, Techno, Grime – anything that satiates our hungry, hungry ears.
