Dawn is an experimental work scored for solo piano and an ambience track.
Again, the work started off from an improvisation recording I did on my piano, which was transcribed onto the program. The work has one pedal mark which lasts for the whole piece. The piece does not have a regular beat because 'Dawn' is in 13/4 time; I selected this time signature to accompany the countless pauses. The main motif is based on the popular 'Big Ben' tune from the famous clock tower in the Palace of Westminster, London.
Dawn (the piano work) has no structure or form. The opening depicts a quiet forest with singing birds while it is still dark. As it develops it portrays light starting to filter through the trees which climaxes to a fortissimo pentatonic arpeggio representing the sun rising and the forest 'coming alive'. Quite a few intervals imitate bird calls such as cuckoos and other miscellaneous non-nocturnal birds.
Some of you past followers might notice that this is a re-upload. I chose to do this after much consideration - resulting in a much more refined interpretation in the piano recording, use of a different dawn chorus ambiances and bird calls, and much more meticulous mixing in post-composition.
