Like that second part a LOT; funny that s.o. called it 'euro-style jazz' - to me it sounds ever so 'big american metropole' ! :-)
-
@SCHMUCKFENSTER: What or who is "s.o." ? As for metropole: We were knocking out this tune in Jack's studio at a sparsely populated edge of Boulder Colorado :)
- SCHMUCKFENSTER on July 22, 2009 23:51
@AvantGuy: well, might be a bit limited in experience (metropoles in general) but it has definitively a jazzy non-banned smoky new york sound, no doubts
- SCHMUCKFENSTER on July 22, 2009 23:51
@SCHMUCKFENSTER: ;-))
-
@SCHMUCKFENSTER: "non-banned" - - Yes, we felt no censorship pressures when performing this :)

First track from my CD release with Jack Wright (the "Johnny Appleseed of Free Improv"). Called 'Euro-style Free-jazz' by one reviewer. The Song That Never Was (remix Imogen Heap) Uploaded by AvantGuy Start following Send a message on March 24, 2009 03:31

Nothing for a 'quickie' after work here. But one to return to sure there is much to discover

Invited by a fellow amateur composer (more experienced than me, however) to write a quintet for a local woodwind group. Was never excited about classical woodwind quintet music, finding it a bit colorless / treble-centric. Figuring unknown nobody-composers don’t turn their back on a commission, I... - Two Constellations Artwork

I like the relief of tension part 4 brings. Has this ever been performed live?

Excerpts of a very early piece - perpetually unfinished, but a fave nevertheless. The great Katherine Hughes, violin. Still using rack synths back then. String "section" sounds are processed from Katherine's recording. Most other sounds are Proteus-1. The idea was to divide the pitch set into its... - Kinetic Discourse Artwork

Definitely reminds me of Expressionism, particularly Schoenberg.
-
@Hellequin: Gotcha - Yes, Jeremy was improvising in what often sounds pitch-serial, nearly 12-tone row-like.

Derived from a live show, in which our ad-hoc group was called "5 x 5" (or "5-by-5") as it was a quintet and we played five pieces (cute, eh). Escape(5x) is a piece I composed in the aftermath of that concert, based on material I used during the performance.
Awesome! I love piano splashes. This is great stuff.
