      Like that second part a LOT; funny that s.o. called it 'euro-style jazz' - to me it sounds ever so 'big american metropole' ! :-)

      @SCHMUCKFENSTER: What or who is "s.o." ? As for metropole: We were knocking out this tune in Jack's studio at a sparsely populated edge of Boulder Colorado :)

      @sirlig: Glad you found that, @sirlig. It's been performed twice live. Dorothy Martirano (vln) and I (computer) premièred it, then a year later Katherine Hughes and I did it again. That was the full 12-minute version (gulp)

classical chamber woodwind

Invited by a fellow amateur composer (more experienced than me, however) to write a quintet for a local woodwind group. Was never excited about classical woodwind quintet music, finding it a bit colorless / treble-centric. Figuring unknown nobody-composers don’t turn their back on a commission, I said “Sure, Frank, gimme a few months.” My solution included some doubling on cor anglais, bass clarinet, and piccolo, and lots of stopped horn to expand the usual range and color. I’m happy with it.
