About
Music about Music!
A favorite question of mine is...
- What is music? What makes the essence of sound an experience of enjoyable music?
Working with a Sampler & basically recording any sound I come across, (like splicing vinyl segments & recording open air acoustic ambience) opens up all kinds of mind challenging sound spectra.
So if I come across creating some potentially disturbing sounds. I then enjoy when it slowly starts growing on me.
A creative freedom that becomes existentially interesting, with a morbid curiosity of what it/I might become. It challenges my very own perception of what I might decide/accept to make work in the creation process.
The sampling concept has proven to be an excellent tool to broaden once horizons of what could be perceived as music.
I like to call myself a Post Modern Sound Pirate. Stealing from the already established and dead artists. Recycling (sampling) all that is under the sun. Creating a new experience of time & place of what has been, for a vision of what could be.
The reason for this is my extensive sampling & recording of other artist. Even to the extent of almost erasing the differences between composing and DJ;ing. Totally freeing myself from the reality that the music I create is made up with sounds recorded from a variety of different artists.
In one sense, it´s a music license Nightmare. But on the other a hand the results are timeless & classic magic.
