About
Augustine Leudar was born in the Britain and started working with sound in the late eighties . Originally entranced by bizarre music such as the Residents and Ligeti, throughout the nineties he released several works some of which were featured on John Peel's Radio One show. Throughout this period he became increasingly interested in Electroacoustic music and sound art . He also trained as a sound engineer and writes his own software and makes hi fidelity field recordings to achieve a wide range of special effects for games and film;
When not in the UK he is often found roaming the tropical forests of the Amazon and SE Asia with a rusty microphone, hunting for rare sounds to add to his sonic menagerie. He makes electronic music inspired by the rural enviroments where he lives (most of the time) and mythology. His aesthetics include working towards creating "holographic" music . He has performed at various galleries and festivals both at home and abroad including the National Gallery of the Czech republic the "Rudolfinum". Although initially self taught he has a BSC in "Sonic Arts" from Middlesex University and is now studying a Masters at the Sonic arts research centre in Belfast where he's looking into ambisonics and wave field synthesis .
Other projects include multichannel sound sculptures, surround sound compositions and unusual multi speaker installations . These include a surround sound fairy mound "Goed" and a surround sound tunnel "Datamine" through which listeners had to crawl and featured a miniature gallery of paintings by artist Brian Benson . 2010 saw the release of "De bells of Nafin" with Mike Foyle on Armada records . In 2010 Augustine also delivered the worlds largest ever multichannel indoor sound installation filling 1.5 hectares of the tropical Biome at the Eden project in Cornwall with real and imaginary jungle sounds . It was the beginning of a series of large-scale sound installations at the Eden project. The last one was mixed in surround sound in the Jungles of Bolivia , sent over the internet, and was playing in the Eden project within 24 hours.
Augustine also hosts the experimental music radio show called "Through the looking glass" recently acclaimed in The Guardian newspaper.
