About
Audio Mekanic is the creative alter ego for DJ/Producer - John Reyes
John's journey into electronic music stems from the early underground Texas rave scene. Heavily influenced by old school DJ's, Rob Vaughn, Chris Anderson, and Red Eye, he was driven to start collecting vinyl and hit the decks mixing break beats in 1996. When the parties began to shut down, he travelled coast to coast multiple times a year to some of the biggest and most memorable parties of his life. In his journeys, he was searching for something different. This is when his love for TECHNO formed. He had the privilege of hearing artists who became his favorite DJ's/Producers such as Cari Lekebusch, Adam Beyer, Joel Mull, Marco Carola, and Ritchie Hawtin. Hearing them perform, helped him quickly grasp this new found rhythm. It was like going to school, but the lessons were on the dance floor. Upon this emerged his alter ego, Audio Mekanic.
As a DJ, sticking to his guns and separating himself from the mainstream allowed him to create a unique, underground sound. His precise mixing skills and thoughtful programming take groovy and funky to another level and will rock any dance floor on the planet. Steadily expanding his track selection into a wide variety of techno beats, it simply explains his genre as QUALITY ELECTRONIC DANCE MUSIC. John has played alongside some of the best and well known talent including Punisher, Tim Xavier, and Alland Byallo.
In 2011 he took his music to the next level and hit the studio serving up some funk of his own. He released his first track on Capital Techno Recordings’ Beats for Freakz compilation called "Scratching the Surface." His second track is a remix featured on Northbeatz Digital Records called "Hungerhaken" for artist Voodoopriester from Bremen, Germany. His next release, "Shadow Dancing," dropped on CTR16 (Elton D Remixes)
Results of Influence is his first full EP recently released on Capital Techno Recordings in December 2011. This album was inspired by everything techno and heavily influenced by the sounds of his favorite artists throughout the years. Going into the studio with no initial thought process and ignoring rules that define boundaries of techno genres, his only intention was to come out with proper, mixable DJ tools, strictly for the dance floor. These four funky techno tracks are the results of his influences.
John has quickly gained support from numerous artists around the globe and is recognized for his funky techno style as well as his deeper, darker sounds under alias Audio Mekanic. He has now dedicated himself to music production while balancing his DJ career holding two monthly club residencies in Austin, TX (Steady Motion @ PLUSH and Recovery @ LANAI) and already has current releases in 2012 on InterTech Records, Take More Music Records, and Uniform Recordings, with more coming soon on AK Recordings and Capital Techno...
