About

Atom. The basic unit of matter. A core surrounded by a cloud of electrons. The name atom comes from the Greek átomos, α-τεμνω, which means uncuttable, or indivisible, something that cannot be divided further. A minimalist, Atom is steadfast in his belief, that a lot of the time, tracks with less layers in them actually evoke more emotion and say more, using less.
Complex rhythms, syncopation, whether tribal, Latin, or middle eastern definitely catch his trained ear, whether it’s house, tech house, techno or other. Inspired by many, including Danny Howells, Teri Bristol, Suedmilch, Frankie Knuckles, all masters at being able to create and maintain a vibe, to actually use music to take the listener somewhere, a vision.
Music has always been a passion of Atom’s. Through bartending at Crobar Chicago from 1994-2002, he was able to listen to hundreds of DJ’s, both good and bad, noting from their performances what works and what doesn’t. He spent a great amount of time collaborating on musical endeavors with Curt Caris and Tod Miner, ushering in the digital age by editing countless tracks to make them DJ friendly and helping others learn to edit music, making it easier to spin it from CD’s. Selling his mix CDs from behind the bar while working ultimately got him coming out as a guest DJ at NEO, Atom has always kept the passion for music strong within. In the shadows of this Post-Trance era of dance music, Atom steps into the light, ready to share with you, the pieces of his musical adventure.
