A brand new production of Rodgers & Hammerstein's blockbuster American musical Carousel comes to London in August 2012, for just 37 performances.
Voted best musical of the 20th century by Time Magazine, Carousel features some of the most moving music ever written for the stage, including the immortal You'll Never Walk Alone, If I Loved You and the joyful June is bustin' out all over.
Set on the New England coastline, Carousel is a story of true love, loss, and feelings left unspoken. Following the ill-fated love affair between bad boy Billy Bigelow and trusting Julie Jordan, this classic musical is deeply touching and will capture your heart.
Opera North makes a return to the barbican following its triumphant production of Gilbert & Sullivan's Ruddigore last year (4 and 5 stars in The Guardian, Daily Telegraph, & The Times). Featuring an outstanding cast, Carousel is directed by Jo Davies (Ruddigore), with designs by Anthony Ward (Oliver) and choreography by the renowned Kim Brandstrup. James Holmes (Sweeney Todd) and Jonathan Gill (The Sound of Music) conduct a large orchestra, in this compelling new interpretation of Carousel.
