About
ASIALAKAY (Asia Lakay Grady) was born in the early 80's, across the street from the projects in the crack-cocaine and gunshot laden Franklin Field area of Dorchester, Boston, MA. As a child, her family brought her on tours with their Caribbean band and hosted after hours parties into the early hours of the morning. This introduced her to a wide range of popular urban music from artists including Grandmaster Flash, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson and Parliament Funkadelic. Asia grew up listening to New Jack Swing, R&B, Dancehall, Hip Hop, Jazz, Musical Theater, House, Breaks, and Jungle. In 2001, Asia bought her first multitrack digital recorder, a Tascam Pocketstudio 5, from Mr. Music in Allston, MA. From then on she found her passion for producing songs that gave voice to her thought-waves, intuition, and emotions.
