Mr. Gregor has just turned off his radio in suburban London. The speaker voice still rings in his ears. He couldn't believe what he was hearing. It had to be all foul lies. How could anyone offend, hurt, maim or kill anyone, let alone innocent children? He was more than upset, he was furious and heart broken. The people of Biafra were dying like flies and what was he doing? Having a sandwich listening to the radio, comfortable and safe, far away from the turmoil in Nigeria.
He wanted to do something, anything. He wanted to hear more, even though it hurt to get a glimpse of their every-day-life of uncertainty, fear or hate.
He turned on the radio. Out floated the innocent voices of Beatles. He sat down. Closed his eyes, collected his thoughts and listened. Perhaps there wasn't much he could do after all. Perhaps he was just meddling with other people's business.
He calmed down. And dozed off.
