With a rapidly growing catalog of releases, Chris Demetras, known as “Art of Hot”, is quickly moving onto the radar of electronic music fans worldwide. A dedicated musician, DJ, and producer with 20 years experience, Chris’ Art of Hot originals and remixes have been featured on nearly 170 releases and over 30 labels, and Art of Hot singles are regularly found in the crates of notable artists such as Angel Alanis, Carl Cox, and Jon Rundell.
An active participant in the early 90s West Coast electronic music scene, Chris found inspiration in the bins of legendary San Francisco record store BPM, discovering tracks from distant places like the UK and New York. He would often find himself crate-digging alongside notable artists such as Doc Martin, who would frequent BPM for records that he’d drop later that evening. Chris was inspired by many artists frequenting the Bay Area scene; folks like Doc Martin, DJ Sneak, DJ Dan, the Hardkiss brothers, and Jenö & Garth motivated Chris to step behind the decks in 1994. Soon after mastering the art of DJing and studio production, he ventured out from behind the turntables and focused exclusively on live performance music production. It was then that the Art of Hot moniker was born; Chris found himself regularly performing as a live act at many notable venues and gained several residencies over the years in San Francisco. Art of Hot has made regular guest appearances on radio shows such as Expression Sessions w/ Evan Alexander on KZME.fm, Chicago House FM, and Plugged in on KBOO 90.7 FM. Art of Hot maintains current residencies in Portland, Oregon that include Synthesis and House Call presents Flight.
Influenced by the sounds of Brian Eno, The Orb and underground rave and breakbeat hardcore, Chris embarked on what has become a lifelong career in studio production. The era’s sounds, samples and underlying technologies intrigued Chris and his love affair with technology and sampling was born. Not one to distinguish between genres, Chris can - and does - create many styles of electronic music. Ask him today and he’ll tell you he’s most influenced by tech-house sounds, but don’t be surprised to hear deep, funky, electro, or disco-flavored house, breaks, or drum & bass influences in his discography. Art of Hot’s breakthrough release, entitled “Disco Break”, was released on Looq records, which was featured in Microsoft XBox’s Dance Dance Revolution Ultramix 2. Followed up by a lengthy stretch of intensive studio work that resulted in a steady stream of successful releases, Art of Hot has collaborated with artists such as DRC and Piltdown Sound, and remixed works for Old Fat Jacko, Alexandro Tachyani, Marboc, and Bizabit. His works have been remixed by notable artists such as Angel Alanis, JAK, Franck Valat, Cristian Paduraru, Tey Astro, and Huggie.
Working day and night in his Portland studio, Chris has released originals and remixes on labels such as Looq Records, Don’t Look Productions, Mizumo Music, Binge Records, Eltronic Fusion Records, Fever Sound Records, USB X-Files Records, Music Taste Records, iFROMINAL, Seta Label, BDivision, Trident Music, Click Muziq Recordings, BWG Records, USB DIGITAL, 911 Recordings, Purple Sun Records, Straight Up!, White Minds Records, Hard Disko Records, Tronic B7 Records, Kroton Sound Recordings, DPM Records, Soraya, Digital Music Labels, Iplug Logo, Nasimus Records, Percent Records, Liquitech Records, Morfologica Records, Mu.Too Records, and SubSensory. Art of Hot was featured on the Traxsource Essential 20 Techno for January 2013.
Whether as a musician, a dj, or in the production studio; Chris immerses himself in the music with an intensity that matches his infectious personality. With his versatility, relentless dedication in the studio to creating new sounds, and a rapidly growing catalog of releases, Art of Hot is definitely an artist to watch.
