The Rub for Aritzia | DJ Ayres

We are totally hyped to introduce the first installment of The Rub’s mix series for Aritzia!

Since 2002 The Brooklyn DJ crew have been throwing legendary parties at Southpaw, considered to be the best dance night in New York city. This month Ayres, Cosmo Baker and DJ Eleven celebrated their 9 year anniversary party.

The first in a 3 part mix series by each of the The Rub’s members is vol. 1 by Ayres:

This is a collection of some of my favorite songs of the last year or so, along with a few classics. The theme is loosely "future R&B," run through different filters: Techno, House, Garage, Tropical, Moombahton, Hip-Hop and Downtempo. When ARITZIA asked The Rub to record a mix series, I pretty much knew what I wanted to do right away. I tried to keep the mixing tight but not too flashy, because I wanted the music to take center stage, with me behind the curtains. Gil Scot-Heron passed away after the mix was recorded, and I think it is a testament to his greatness that he recorded "I'm New Here" when he was 61, while most of the other musicians on the mix were still in their 20s.
