This is an initial rough recording of an arrangement of the traditional ladrang Srikaton for a gender and computer generated sine waves. This second version was recorded to demonstrate the a lower register part.
Six sine waves are tuned to the pitches of the slendro scale. While the gender plays regular patterns the computer operator brings the amplitude of the sines up and down according to patterns worked out in advance to anticipate the notes of the balungan and complement the gender.
The parts and graphic score (see the image on the right) were generated using Max/MSP and it is hoped that in later versions a more complete set of garap for various irama may be created.
In this recording the gender was played by Charlotte Pugh and the computer operated by Charles Matthews.
Please note that the sine tones used here may cause some distortion or be too low to hear on laptop speakers.
