This is an initial rough recording of an arrangement of the traditional ladrang Srikaton for a gender and computer generated sine waves.
Six sine waves are tuned to the pitches of the slendro scale. While the gender plays regular patterns the computer operator brings the amplitude of the sines up and down according to patterns worked out in advance to anticipate the notes of the balungan and complement the gender.
The parts and graphic score were generated using Max/MSP and it is hoped that in later versions a more complete set of garap for various irama may be created.
In this recording the gender was played by Charlotte Pugh and the computer operated by Charles Matthews. Everything was recorded live- there are some glitches due to the soundcard that were not noticed at the time. It might be necessary to use headphones to hear the sine waves in full as they occupy the same general pitch space as the gender.
