Born in Derby in September 1984, bought up in the Sticks in Ashbourne in Derbyshire. I grew up as a small child listening to Michael Jackson on my sisters Walkman still in my Pram! Generally listening to great 80's and 90' Pop, Soul and Funk all through my Childhood.
Moving to Derby, to come to Secondary School, my love for Rock and Metal and general rebellion was formed, and along with Skateboarding I spent my early teen's listening to Punk and Ska and going to Gigs at the Vic in Derby, and Rock City In Nottingham, as well as the Reading Festival on several occasions, the last of which my love of Dance music was born at 16 years old. The dance tent there played host to Roots Manouva, Audio Bullys and Lamb. I was hooked.
At 17 i got into Drum & Bass and the whole rave scene, particularly Innovation, Slamin' Viynl and Hysteria, visiting the Legendary Sanctuary Complex in Milton Keynes several times, as well as underground shady d'n'b venues all over the UK. Around this time UK Garage was also at its peak and i got big into the whole Sidewinder 4/4 UKG scene. Garage and Drum & Bass was my 'thing' all through my teens. This made me want to give DJ'ing a crack, buying my first set of Numark belt driven decks. Ive never looked back.
Then I visited the White Isle in my early twenties.
My first time in Ibiza, was probably the most eye-opening experience of my life. We hit all the super clubs, Amnesia, Privilege, Eden, Pacha and Space, but it was DC-10 that really changed my whole outlook on the dance music scene. I loved the whole 128 house beat, but in the larger clubs it was more like Techno and Acid house that all the top Dj's were spinning, but it was Space on Sunday's with Carl Cox, then at 4am piling onto Bora Bora beach to watch the sunrise, then strolling upto DC-10 at stupid 'o' clock that got me really exited. My first time at DC-10 was also the first time I heard Minimal Tech. As we arrived at the 'club' (which was essentially an Aircraft hanger) I was greeted with not only the unreal minimal sound, but also the vibe the whole place had. Dancing to Tania Vulcano at 9am, grooving in flip flops surrounded by awesome, clued up, beautiful (but still wasted) people, hardly any 'brits' in the club, it was a melting pot of people from all over the world, there for one thing, great music. No yobs, no violence, just awesome times. I picked up the Circo-loco lp that was there at the time and had it on repeat in my car for about 6 months. This led me to get into House, buying what vinyl i could.
I still loved my Garage and Drum & Bass but by this point there were far too many idiots going to raves and causing trouble. In the UK i discovered the wonderful concept of 'free' parties and outdoor and indoor DIY raves. Smokescreen, Wireless, D.I.Y, Stumblefunk, Rubberdub, Semtex, Aswan were all the best 'free' partys i used to go and love for sometimes days on end, put on in Quarries, Fields, Warehouses, Abandoned Barns and even old Hospitals.
Buying Pioneer CDJ-1000 mk3's when i was 22 was really the turning point to taking DJ'ing more seriously, as by this time the tunes I was getting into were not readily available, and the price of vinyl was becoming more impractical. Mp3's opened up a whole new world in DJ'ing a whole new world in house music.
Today as im sat here writing this Bio in an apartment in Hong Kong, where my Dad lives, im still quite tired from a cool night i was lucky enough to play at. The after party was great and I met a good group of new friends. Hopefully i will get the chance to DJ with them again soon. In the UK im involved in a number of top class club nights, Hype! which is a predominantly a Dubstep night, hosts great House vibes in the second room, Transform at the Shakespeare which is a really good underground deep house night, and Freq! which is Derby's best House and Techno night are the nights i get to play at. Ive also had the chance to play in great places all over the Uk, including Sheffield, Leed's and Bristol.
I still love my Garage, Drum & Bass and Dubstep but its not a patch on House, especially Deep/Tech and Minimal Techno. Its a genre thats forever Changing into something better and theres no other genre of dance music you can enjoy for hours on end without even realising it!
I returned to Ibiza twice after my first visit and over 5 years and ive seen it changing for the worst in my opinion. Like anything good, they always come to an end, and today its all about Berlin, Leed's, Hong Kong and Croatia for that great party experience.
Looking forward to producing and releasing my own tracks, so watch this space…….
