Dug a very old mix out from the archives (one I recorded almost 16 years ago to be exact across 2 TDK 90 tapes). It's 3 hours long in total and has been remastered a touch so it sounds pretty clean for a tape recording.

Thought I'd upload this ahead of our old school special event on the 19th of April at Wire in Leeds, UK. Looking forward to dusting off some timeless wax and playing a heap of classics through Funktion 1.

I'll be playing a pretty deep one on the night from 10:30PM until 12AM and going back to around 93/1994 upwards.

RANDALL (Blue Note Set)

Arguably the most talented DJ in the scene, Randall is one of the original selectors that helped push forward the Hardcore / Jungle sound. Landing his first pirate radio slot on CentreForce FM in 1989, he began playing to 1000s at illegal raves, before holding down residencies for Orange and AWOL in the early 90s. Building up a legendary DJ status, a personal hero to artists such as Andy C & DJ Friction, Randall became known for his seamless mixing and pure fluidity across contrasting flavours. Releasing Sound Control / Feel It with Andy C on RAM in 1995, Randall went on to start his own label, Mac II Recordings two years later. From 1995-98, Randall became a regular for Metalheadz nights, such as their famous Sunday night sessions at London's Blue Note club. With people travelling from all across the UK just to experience the vibes, this Sunday night weekly gained legendary status; packed out with music enthusiasts. Randall will pay tribute to this seminal night.

DOC SCOTT (31 Records / Metalheadz / Reinforced)

Doc Scott has been making his influence felt since the birth of the rave scene; inspired by 80s Electro and Hip Hop, he developed a love for Detroit Techno. Doc Scott started headlining huge events by 1991, releasing the NHS EP, with a massive 4x4 track, ‘Surgery’. Later introduced to the Reinforced crew, Here Come The Drumz was snapped up immediately. When Goldie established Metalheadz, it was with Doc Scott that the first releases were put out. Departing from the jungle that was dominating the national scene, VIP Drumz featured on the first release. Inspired by residencies at Blue Note & Speed, anthems as Drumz 95, Far Away, The Unofficial Ghost and Tokyo Dawn subsequently followed. In 1996 he launched 31 Records, with the ground breaking Shadow Boxing. One of the most important producers to grace the scene, Wire will play host to the impeccable selection of this great DJ.

SOURCE DIRECT (Metalheadz / Demonic)

Two of the most incredible breakbeat producers to have ever graced the scene, taking sonic experimentation to new levels, SD have produced some of the most timeless Jungle music of all time, that continues to inspire upcoming producers in the digital age today. Developing a darker, more brooding style than the likes of LTJ Bukem, Source Direct combined sharp edged breaks with eerie, minor-key melodies to create a truly unique sound. The result: an incredible back catalogue, with key releases for Metalheadz, Good Looking, Odysee, Source Direct and more on various pseudonyms. We proudly welcome a rare set from one of the most respected names in the scene.

ANT TC1 (D.O.P.E. Set)

The Dispatch boss and now Metalheadz label manager who set up Momentum just under a decade ago returns to The Wire, this time digging the crates to play an exclusive old skool set. A widely recognised vinyl enthusiast, experience Drum & Bass in its purest form as Ant TC1 pays tribute to all the chopped breaks that inspired him in the early 90s and continues to inspire him today!
