Born in the city of Leeds, Anthony Raphael Collins' love and passion for music began sometime in the early 1970's. I've been buying music since the late 70's and having been inspired by the party mix tracks coming out of New York I attempted at a few basic 'pause/record' edits in '83 - after which I was inspired to learn the art of mixing records with two turntables. In '88 I took the name DJ Anton and began playing in clubs and bars and with the acid house/rave scene that followed, I even found myself DJ-ing in the occasional cave and field. Recent years have seen me drop the 'DJ' tag and continue to use the name Anton along with my middle name 'Raphael' - playing a less energetic and more ecletic/retro vibe whilst guesting at various clubs and bars in and around his home town such as; Basics, Speed Queen, Rock Bar and Norman, with a current residences at Oracle and Azucar and 80's VICE CITY.
Influenced by 70's and 80's soul/funk, disco, pop, electro, hip hop and reggae, along with the early underground house music scene, I have a varied eclectic taste which is reflected in many of my bar sets. ‘Creativity is the key and my aim is always to produce a memorable mix with plenty of surprises’.
MIXES - MASHUPS and EDITS by AR (Vice City)
After years of playing music and indeed playing other DJ's and producers remix and edit work, it was time to start getting out a number of ideas and works that had been locked away over the years.
Vice City is the name under which these works are produced - providing an avenue for channeling my creative energies and an opportunity to explore, have fun and let people see what makes me tick.
