In 2009, while walking through the streets of Lisbon, I discovered a board covered in identity photos and pictures of weddings or baptisms. They belonged to the photographer Luís Soares who has been working in Lisbon for years. Next to these photos of anonymous people was a black and white one of the “Monument To The Chicken”.
I went to meet the photographer. He told me he had taken it and told me the story. He accepted my offer to buy the photo and several months later I decided to return it to the chicken in my parents’ coop near Lisbon. That is where the photo, and by extension the monument in honour of chicken represented, now resides.
