Anton Emery has brought a unique and personal sound to the guitar, arranging celtic music in a solo guitar context. He takes traditional tunes normally heard on the fiddle, flutes, and bagpipes, and strives to keep their intrinsic lilt and feel. He has one foot in the past, playing tunes that are hundreds of years old, while at the same time bringing a new voice to them on the guitar.

Anton started his guitar journey at age 15, his uncle giving him his first instrument. After exploring a variety of rock and blues based styles a friend played him some flamenco guitar recordings, which resulted in Anton studying classical guitar for the next few years, until his sophmore year in college. It was about this time that Anton was getting into steel string acoustic guitarists like Michael Hedges, Laurence Juber, Don Ross, and Preston Reed, as well as hanging out at the local irish session, thanks to a friend who played the pipes. Further exploration of the steel string guitar genre led to musicians like Al Petteway, Steve Baughman, and Robin Bullock, players who were coming from a more traditional music angle.

Anton started arranging some traditional tunes on his own, as well as playing at the local irish session, first on rhythm guitar and penny whistle, then later on mandolin and wooden flute. He continued to refine his guitar style, going several times to the Swannanoa Gathering Guitar Week to study with professional musicians. He also kept going to irish sessions whenever he could, playing tunes primarily on flute, or providing rhythmic guitar backup.

Now based in Portland Oregon Anton is proud to release his debut album, Noone Lasses. Produced by celtic guitarist Steve Baughman and engineered by Acoustic Guitar Contributing Editor Doug Young, this solo guitar album contains a variety of favorite tunes that Anton has arranged over the years.
