Disquiet Junto Association for communal music/sound-making
This is a remix of Marcus Fischer’s “Nearly There” from his album Collected Dust, released this month on the Tench label.
This remix was created as part of the fourth Disquiet Junto project. Participants in the project were provided with 10 constituent parts of Marcus Fischer’s recording with the challenge to remix it, using as much or as little of the original 10 parts as the participants chose.
When creating my remix, the title of the original recording made me think of a long journey and the feeling of being “nearly there” that comes when the destination is close. I used all 10 parts of the original recording, but rearranged them so some parts were overlapping and some parts used more than once. In addition, I added a recording of highway noise recorded near my home and filtered the sound to evoke the image of a train ride, perhaps late at night in a foreign land.

Wow. Some really dense sonic layers happening in here. Love the slowly evolving melodies throughout.

@Another Neglected Hobby: Oh, yes. I like it much better with the train sound dialed down. Do-overs!

@b a r l o w: Yeah, after I listened to what I uploaded I thought the train sound was overwhelming everything else. Oh well, I'm learning.

I like the train sound. I also really like the other sounds you have on top, would be nice to hear them better. Maybe add a little dynamic with the train sound, bringing it low in the mix so the other elements can stand out?
